Addressing the problems and urgent needs of Ukrainian youth has also not been left out of the EU’s attention and assistance. The European Union’s large-scale programme for the Eastern Partnership countries, ‘EU4Youth’, is being implemented in several phases, and includes a number of projects aimed at helping different groups of young people, including in Ukraine.
Under Phase III of the ‘EU4Youth’ programme, the project ‘Assistance to Young Veterans and IDPs in Ukraine’,
with a total budget of almost
EUR 315 000,
will see 300 participants take part in business competence development activities, 60 of them develop business plans with the help of coaches, and the 10 best plans will receive funding for their implementation. Another project in the same phase of the programme, ‘Strengthening Sustainability and Social Inclusion of Youth’ (with a budget of over EUR 311 000), focuses on strengthening the financial sustainability and professional competencies of young people through the launch and management of social enterprises.
‘Ukraine has great prospects with such committed and talented generation of future leaders.’
The EU4Recovery project, implemented by the UNDP for young people from six regions, as well as temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, focuses on the inclusion and empowerment of young people, including in digital literacy, critical thinking, integration of young displaced people in new communities, mental health support, promotion of volunteering and youth leadership, and engagement of young people and veterans in community recovery and resilience. Thanks to EU assistance, there are more than 1 100 libraries for young people and children in Ukraine that can take part in EU Network calls for proposals.
As part of the EU-supported ‘European Youth Ambassadors’ programme, nearly 120 participants had the opportunity to present 26 recovery initiatives that could be included in local recovery plans. For almost three decades, the EU Delegation to Ukraine has been providing ongoing support to students and active youth through Euroquizzes,EU Study Days, study camps and other activities, and over 300 Euroclubs have been established at Ukrainian schools and libraries to deepen understanding of why integration is important and how to prepare students and young people for it.
Guidance, care, and comprehensive and effective assistance to young people is a strong safeguard for the sustainable future of any country. The European Union’s assistance to Ukrainian youth at a time when Ukrainians are fighting hard for their civilisational choice, and the joint efforts in this area to achieve Ukraine’s EU integration goal, are the key to our common and prosperous future as a strengthened European Union.
