EU–Ukraine scientific cooperation: Innovation and Integration Ahead!
19/05/2025
On 16 May, Ukraine’s National Science Day, Kyiv hosted a high-level conference on integrating Ukrainian research into the European Research Area.
🤝 Stefan Schleuning, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, joined leading scientists, business and university heads, MPs and European Commission’s EU Science & Innovation representatives at the event, co-organised by the Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.
💡 Since Ukraine joined Horizon Europe in December 2023, researchers have secured grants and linked their labs to innovation networks across the EU — driving innovation and research despite ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“Science and innovation must remain on the national agenda alongside security and defence, driving both post-war recovery and deeper EU integration,” Mr Schleuning said in his remarks.
🚀 The EU’s message to researchers is to seize every opportunity within the European Research Area as it is preparing to broaden financial support for Ukrainian innovators and scientists.
