Ukraine gets first €3 billion of EU macro-financial assistance

As reported by the European Commission, Ukraine has received the first tranche of macro-financial assistance from the European Union – €3 billion out of €18 billion.

“The Commission has today disbursed the first tranche of €3 billion of the macro-financial assistance package for Ukraine amounting to €18 billion“, the statement said.

Future disbursements of €1.5 billion per month will continue from March and are subject to satisfactory progress in meeting the agreed conditions and continued compliance with reporting requirements.

The EC noted that these funds would help Ukraine continue to pay salaries and pensions and maintain the functioning of basic public institutions, including hospitals, schools, and housing for IDPs.s

The EU macro-financial assistance should also help Ukraine rebuild its infrastructure and maintain macroeconomic stability.

On 10 December, the Council of the European Union agreed to provide Ukraine with an €18 billion assistance package during 2023. On 21 October, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Ukraine would receive €9 billion in macro-financial assistance from the EU by the end of the year.
