With EU support, the 50th National Guard Regiment received new equipment for patrols

The 50th Regiment of Ukraine’s National Guard has received new equipment under two Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021-2027 projects.

This is reported by Halka, citing the 50th Colonel Semen Vysochan Regiment of Ukraine’s National Guard.

Vehicles and quad bikes, purchased with support from the European Union, have already been added to the vehicle fleet of the 50th National Guard Regiment.

Under the project “Increasing cross-border cooperation and operational capabilities of partner structures for better preservation of biodiversity and protected areas” GREENROUA (ROUA00087), the military unit received modern all-wheel-drive Renault Duster vehicles for patrolling and rapid response in hard-to-reach protected natural areas. Before the project’s completion, the plan is also to purchase a specialised van-based vehicle for a mobile command and coordination centre.

The project partner is the Gendarmerie Inspectorate of Satu Mare County (Romania). The total project budget is EUR 438,114.35, of which EUR 394,302.91 (90%) is European Union funding.

Under the project “Enhanced protection and operational intervention in the protected natural areas of Maramureș and Ivano-Frankivsk” Safe Mountains (ROUA00138), the unit has already received the first four all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). These will ensure effective patrolling and response in mountainous terrain, where the use of conventional vehicles is impossible. Before the project’s completion, the fleet will be expanded with additional ATVs, a snowmobile, and thermal imaging devices for night patrols.

The project partner is the “Pintea Viteazul” Gendarmerie Inspectorate of Maramureș County (Romania). The project budget is EUR 442,773.65, of which EUR 398,496.28 (90%) is European Union funding.

Both projects aim to strengthen cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and Romania in protecting the biodiversity of natural protected areas, as well as combating poaching, illegal logging, and other environmental violations.

The equipment was purchased with financial support from the European Union.
