Construction of housing for IDPs begins in Ternopil
17/03/2025
Construction of two multi-storey buildings for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ternopil has begun. The housing is being constructed under a project funded by the European Union and managed by the international financial organisation Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO), the Ternopil City Council informed.
The city plans to construct two buildings with a total of 146 apartments. The housing will be energy-efficient. The adjacent territory will be equipped with green spaces, as well as recreational areas and playgrounds.
A solar power station will be installed on the roof of one building, providing autonomous power. A heat pump-based water heating system will also be implemented, ensuring water supply even during the non-heating season. One building will incorporate a shelter.
The project is being implemented under the programme ‘Housing for Internally Displaced Persons and Rehabilitation of Liberated Cities of Ukraine. Component II’. According to the general procurement notice, €9.5 million in investment has been allocated for the construction of IDP housing in Ternopil.
On 5 February 2025, during a meeting of the executive committee of the Ternopil City Council, the working project for the construction of IDP housing was approved. It will be constructed at 116 Mykulynetska Street. Funding is provided by a grant agreement between NEFCO and the Ternopil City Council, signed on June 26, 2023.
