EU and EIB support the completion of the “Romashka” kindergarten restoration in Poltava region

In the settlement of Kotelva, a preschool has resumed operations following a comprehensive modernisation, jointly financed by the local community and European partners. It is now modern, energy-efficient, barrier-free, and safe for children.

This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry for Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport.

“Ensuring the safety and comfort of our children as they learn is an unconditional priority for the government and our ministry. Recovery projects like the Romashka kindergarten in Kotelva demonstrate how, through effective coordination with our international partners – the EIB, the EU, and UNDP – we are not just rebuilding walls, but creating modern, energy-efficient, and inclusive spaces with reliable shelters. We will keep working so that every community has quality conditions for development,” said Mykola Kalashnyk, Minister for Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine.

As part of the project:

• the building underwent thermal modernisation;
• the façade, roof, and interior premises were repaired;
• engineering networks were upgraded;
• new furniture and educational equipment were installed;
• a barrier-free environment was created;
• a new shelter was built, allowing the educational process to continue even during air-raid alerts.

The total cost of the project is EUR 526,000, of which EUR 438,000 was financed by the European Investment Bank, with the remainder covered by the local community. 

The project was implemented under the Ukraine Recovery Programme, coordinated by the Ministry for Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine together with the Ministry of Finance, with support from the European Investment Bank, the European Union, and UNDP.
