EUAM Ukraine forges digital defenders with cutting-edge cybersecurity training

Experts from the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine last week carried out three days of cybersecurity training for 20 cadets of the Odesa State Ministry of Internal Affairs (MoIA) University.

The training aims to bolster the preparedness of first-line cybersecurity responders from Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, and the continuous development of cadets and staff from MoIA universities.

From August 6-8, EUAM adviser Dragos-Gabriel Dima led an intensive programme in Odesa aimed at equipping cadets with the skills needed to defend against cyber threats and attacks. The curriculum integrated best European practices, techniques, methods, and real-world scenarios, focusing on information security, disaster recovery, and business continuity during cybersecurity incidents or offensive attacks on critical infrastructures.

Dima stressed the broader implications of cybersecurity: “For you as future investigators, it is important to understand that cybersecurity is not only about system or technical specifications. To be successful in this area you need to get out from the comfort zone, change your mindset, embrace and foster a cybersecurity culture toward the new multi threats coming from cyberspace.”

“In today’s Ukraine, the importance of cybersecurity knowledge and skills for future police officers cannot be overstated,” said Anders Johansen, Head of EUAM Odesa Field Office. “As digital threats evolve, our defenders must be equipped to protect not only our physical borders but also our digital infrastructure.”

EUAM Ukraine will continue its cooperation with MoIA universities and law enforcement agencies to jointly create a robust cybersecurity culture, ensuring they are equipped to face the challenges of both the present and the future.
