The European Commission has decided to allocate €1 billion to rebuild damaged schools and hospitals in Ukraine. A special secretariat has been set up to coordinate this process.
This was announced on February 3 by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference.
“We start with the fast recovery. This is embedded in the larger process of reconstruction. I am glad to announce that the first €1 billion for fast recovery will be provided. We now have our secretariat up and running. So the work can start immediately,” the President of the European Commission said.
Besides the repair of buildings ruined or damaged by Russian occupiers, the daily job is to repair schools, hospitals, and roads in Ukraine. The European Union is willing to take an active part in such processes.
As a reminder, in December 2022, the European Commission decided to provide €100 million to rebuild Ukrainian schools destroyed by Russian aggression and to donate school buses so that children could get to schools more safely.
