The EU approves an additional €3.5 billion to the European Peace Facility and the 11th package of sanctions
EU Ambassadors agreed on the 11th package of sanctions against Russia, and also approved an additional €3.5 billion (2018 prices) to the European Peace Facility the EU uses to provide military equipment to partners, informed the press service of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The EU Ambassadors approved an additional €3.5 billion (2018 prices) to the European Peace Facility. “This decision reaffirms the EU’s commitment to supporting its partners in the field of security and defence,” the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The European Peace Facility is an extra-budgetary mechanism of the EU, which the EU can use to provide military equipment to partners as well as assistance in training.
The Facility was set up in March 2021 to preserve peace, prevent conflicts and strengthen international security. EU member countries make annual contributions to the EPF based on their annual budgets.
EU Ambassadors also agreed on the 11th package of sanctions against Russia. The package includes measures aimed at countering sanctions circumvention and individual listings.
