FAO and the European Union launch fourth grant cycle in the State Agrarian Registry to strengthen resilience of Ukrainian farmers

Farmers can receive grants up to UAH 1.1 million to invest in equipment, green technologies and infrastructure for agricultural development

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in coordination with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, and with the financial support from the European Union (EU), are launching applications for the fourth grant cycle to support Ukraine’s agricultural sector by strengthening its competitiveness, sustainability and resilience through targeted financial support and long-term investments in agricultural development.

Since 2023, FAO and EU have already provided more than UAH 217.8 million in grant support to 378 agricultural producers in Chernivetska, Dnipropetrovska, Ivano-Frankivska, Lvivska and Zakarpatska oblasts. The funding enabled farmers to invest in critical agricultural machinery and equipment, green technologies and infrastructure necessary to sustain and expand their operations.

The grants support the development of specialized agricultural value chains tailored to the strengths and traditions of each region, while also responding to increasing requirements for food safety and environmentally sustainable production. Several supported products hold Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, reflecting their cultural and economic significance.

In addition to financial assistance, the programme provides grantees with technical support, expert consultations and training opportunities. To date, FAO has organized 170 training sessions covering topics such as finance, food quality and safety, agronomy, veterinary support and animal health, processing technologies, legal requirements to agricultural producers in taxation and reporting, marketing, agrotourism, alternative energy in agriculture, sensory analysis and business development. Capacity-building activities will remain a key component of the fourth grant cycle.

Under the programme conditions, beneficiaries are required to provide co-financing contributions, with the share depending on the selected value chain.

Grants will be provided in Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH) equivalent at the UN exchange rate under two categories:

  • up to UAH 440 500 (USD 10 000) for small-scale agricultural producers;
  • up to UAH 1 101 250 (USD 25 000) for micro- and small agricultural enterprises, agricultural cooperatives and associations of producers of geographical indication products.

The fourth grant cycle will continue supporting agricultural producers in Chernivetska, Dnipropetrovska, Ivano-Frankivska, Lvivska and Zakarpatska oblasts, while additionally expanding the programme’s geographic coverage to Khmelnytska, Ternopilska and Volynska oblasts.

In Lvivska, Dnipropetrovska, Volynska, Khmelnytska and Ternopilska oblasts, support will focus on berries, vegetables, aquaculture, and dairy production and processing. In Zakarpatska oblast, the programme will support producers of Zakarpattia honey, Zakarpattia wine and traditional Hutsul cheeses, including Hutsul cow bryndza and sheep bryndzia, as well as producers engaged in aquaculture, berries, vegetables and non-timber forest products. In Ivano-Frankivska and Chernivetska oblasts, support will be available for berries, vegetables, non-timber forest products, aquaculture and traditional Hutsul cheese production.

Agricultural producers operating within these value chains can apply through the State Agrarian Register until 14 June 2026.
