On 21 April, Katarina Mathernova, the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, hosted an informal breakfast, “Women for a Stronger Ukraine,” to celebrate women’s role and contributions in Ukraine’s defence and recovery.
25 women leaders — veterans, volunteers, human rights defenders, artists, and public activists — spoke about women’s resilience, leadership, and the visibility of their contributions, and the discussion was moderated by veteran Ruslana Danilkina.
“Ukrainian women today carry far more than their own lives. They carry families, communities, and the memory of this country. And they do it not because it is easy, but because it is necessary,” said Katarína Mathernová.
During the breakfast, the Ukrainian Women’s Fund and the Ukrainian Women’s Congress signed a cooperation agreement. The Ambassador also personally supported the civic initiative “Do Not Be Indifferent!”, which helps families of fallen, missing and captured defenders.

The meeting ended with a tribute to those who gave their lives for Ukraine.

The EU stands firmly behind Ukrainian women — because their contribution to the country’s future is invaluable.
