Ukraine Receives New Batch of Specialised Equipment for Clearing Port Waters Following Shelling
The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has handed over a new batch of specialised equipment for responding to water pollution to Ukrainian ports.
This was reported by the State Enterprise “Sea Ports Administration” on Facebook, as relayed by Ukrinform.
“The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has transferred a new batch of specialised equipment for responding to water area pollution to Ukrainian ports. This includes boom containment barriers, mobile floating tanks, and specialised pumps,” the statement reads.

It is noted that the equipment has already been delivered to the Black Sea port. If needed, it may also be deployed to other Ukrainian ports for pollution response operations following strikes on port facilities, which require rapid action to minimise consequences and ensure the stable operation of ports.

According to the Head of the Sea Ports Administration of Ukraine, Mykola Kravchuk, the transferred equipment will strengthen the ports’ capacity to respond to such incidents and will serve as an important element of port infrastructure security.
EMSA’s support is part of systematic cooperation with European partners aimed at enhancing the resilience of Ukraine’s port sector and its readiness for new challenges.
As previously reported, on 23 March 2023, the Sea Ports Administration of Ukraine and the European Maritime Safety Agency signed an agreement on the gratuitous transfer of specialised equipment for pollution response in sea port waters, under the project “Maritime Safety, Security and Protection of the Marine Environment in the Black Sea and Caspian Sea Regions” (BCSEA II).
