Borrell shocked by the video of execution of a Ukrainian at the time of war: how the EU assists in modernizing Ukraine
EU High Representative Josep Borrell stated that he was deeply shocked by the brutal video showing allegedly Russian soldiers decapitate a Ukrainian prisoner of war.
“Deeply shocked by the brutal video of decapitation of a Ukrainian prisoner of war. It is a despicable breach of the Geneva Conventions. All perpetrators and accomplices of war crimes must be held to account. We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes,” Borrel wrote on Twitter, as reported by Ukrinform.
As Ukrinform previously reported, the European Union’s spokesperson Nabila Massrali stated that the video purportedly showing the beheading of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by Russian fighters, if confirmed, serves as yet another brutal reminder about the inhumane nature of the Russian aggression. She confirmed that all perpetrators and accomplices of war crimes committed in connection with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine will be held to account.
As it was earlier reported, two videos were posted on social media showing execution of Ukrainian defenders. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has opened an investigation into the video, showing Russian fighters cutting off the head of a Ukrainian soldier. The law enforcement agencies of Ukraine are taking efforts to identify the persons who committed this heinous crime.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has addressed the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to request immediate attention to the beheading of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by Russian fighters in the context of investigation of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Russian aggressors in Ukraine.
