The Ukraine Energy Support Fund, established through the efforts of the European Commission and the EU Energy Community, has already accumulated EUR 400 million, which will help Ukraine get through another difficult winter in conditions of Russia’s aggression, stated European Commission for Energy Kadri Simson at a press conference after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, as reported by Ukrinform.
“Ukraine remains a top priority and focus in my work, especially now, after the important decision of the European Council last week to open negotiations on its accession to the EU. Thank you for the opportunity to talk with Minister Herman Halushchenko, who informed us about the energy situation in Ukraine in terms of winter and the heating season,” said the EU Commissioner.
“This is the second difficult winter. To help Ukraine get through it, together with the Energy Community, we established a fund, which is currently over EUR 400 million. As Russia’s attacks continue this winter, I called on the ministers to continue to provide equipment and financial assistance [to Ukraine],” added Simson.
In turn, the representative of Spain’s presidency in the EU, Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera Rodriguez, noted that the European ministers expressed their solidarity with Ukraine and their readiness to continue to support the country.
“We heard Ukrainian Energy Minister Halushchenko, who spoke about the developments in his country, as well as about important measures. The ministers were able to express their support and solidarity with Ukraine, and their readiness to continue working with the country. They congratulated Ukraine and took into account last week’s decision of the European Council to open membership negotiations,” said the representative of the Spanish government.
As Ukrinform earlier reported Ukrinform, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, established through the efforts of the European Commission and the EU Energy Community, has already accumulated EUR 400 million. Support comes from the EU, Germany, the UK, Switzerland, the USA, Belgium, Denmark, and Austria, as well as from private companies that have made their own contributions to the fund.
