EU High Representative is on a visit to Ukraine
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated that the European Union’s support for Ukraine is permanent and structured because the EU is facing an existential threat, as reported by Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Centre.
“Our support to Ukraine does not depend on how the war is going in the next few days or weeks. It is a permanent and structured support because we are facing an existential threat. It can’t be resolved in one day. Ukrainians are fighting with all their courage and capacities. And if we want them to be more successful, we have to provide them with better arms, and quicker,” stated the high representative of the EU.
Borrell added that the Ukrainian soldiers are fighting with a lot of courage in front of impressive Russian defence fortifications. The satellite images show that in some cases, these fortifications are 25 km deep, he said.
Borrell emphasized that the counteroffensive is complex and that landmines greatly complicate mechanised warfare and quicker advance. As a reminder, today Josep Borrell met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, and also Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. The other day, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy paid an unofficial visit to Odesa.
