Several batches of solar panels manufactured by Italian company Enel S.p.A. have been delivered to Ukraine as part of the Ray of Hope project, a joint initiative between the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Healthcare Ministry of Ukraine, and the European Commission, the Ministry of Energy informed on Tuesday, as reported by the European Pravda.
The delivery includes 5,876 solar panels with a total capacity of about 2 MW, which will be transferred to Ukrainian hospitals. The energy equipment will be distributed to healthcare facilities in the Zhytomyr, Volyn, Khmelnytskiy, Kyiv, and Odesa regions.
Funds from the Ukraine Energy Support Fund will be used to purchase additional equipment for the installation of the solar panels.
“We are grateful to our European partners for their support. This assistance with equipment, specifically solar panels, is crucial for meeting the energy needs of hospitals and ensuring the operation of medical equipment that saves the lives of thousands of Ukrainians,” said Herman Halushchenko, Energy Minister of Ukraine.
The initiative was previously announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and the agreements were reached through the collaborative efforts of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Halushchenko, and the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson.
Previously, it was reported that the Lithuanian company Litgrid would donate autotransformers and other equipment worth over €4 million to Ukraine, and Estonia will contribute €400,000 to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
