Humanitarian Mine Action in Eastern Ukraine

Project Description
Through Humanitarian Mine Action project the HALO Trust will work towards enhanced long-term security in Ukraine, its’ successful development and alleviating of negative consequences of the armed conflict. HALO aims to provide training for state bodies and other national partners, and to deploy two non-technical survey teams, one EORE team, 7 manual clearance teams, one mechanical clearance team and one mechanical support clearance team to high-priority territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Specific Objective
Through humanitarian mine action, the objective is to support and strengthen Ukraine’s long-term security, stability and development by alleviating the negative consequences of the ongoing conflict.

Specific objectives:
- Enhanced security and stability, reduced risk of death and injury to individuals and communities;
- Enhanced resilience of rural communities and vulnerable groups with improved access to resources, livelihoods and socio-economic opportunities;
- Improved capacity of Ukrainian government bodies to coordinate and manage an effective mine action sector by proper implementation of the newly adopted mine action law;
- Visibility of the European Union ensured through concrete and high impact support to the Ukrainian people.
Expected Results
Estimated results:
- 950 EORE sessions provided
- 157 national operational staff members employed
- 650,000 m2 of land released through clearance and reduction
- 100,000 people informed of EU support to HALO Ukraine
