Oleksandr Lomako, secretary of Chernihiv City Council, signed the agreement on the future cooperation between Chernihiv and the French city of Reims. He is currently on an official visit in France and attended the session of Reims City Council, where the agreement was signed, reported the press service of the city council.
This is a strategic partnership; Chernihiv is interested in Reims’ experience in waste treatment, water purification, public transportation and cooperation in the sphere of culture, Oleksandr Lomako wrote on his Facebook page.
“We have a lot in common. Both cities are located close to the capital and are aware of the pros and cons of this fact. There is no doubt that they admire Ukrainians and our city and sincerely want to support us in difficult times,” wrote Lomako.
Reims suffered strongly during the WWI and has experience of not only rebuilding, but reimagining the city, which Chernihiv is currently working on, said Lomako.
The press service of the city council reported that the cooperation between Chernihiv and Reims is possible thanks to the U-LEAD with Europe Programme. It is the second European city Chernihiv has partnered with during the full-scale war. Earlier, the agreement on cooperation was signed with Polish Rzeszow. Currently, work is underway to sign a similar agreement with the German Aachen.
