EU-Ukraine: responding to challenges together

Media Digest, November 2022

Among the top topics of September and October 2022, we presented three interviews with the Head of the EU Delegation in Ukraine, Ambassador Matti Maasikas. The interviews were conducted by journalists from leading national mass media, and focused on topics related to the consistently increasing financial, humanitarian and military support provided by the EU to Ukraine since the outbreak of war on 24 February 2022. There was also detailed conversation about Ukraine’s new status as a candidate for EU membership, and the objectives we must set for our state and ourselves as a result

European Integration:
Reforms in Action

One of the most complex and long-awaited reforms in Ukraine — judicial reform — must be fully completed. This is one of the key requirements to kick-off fully-fledged negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, and is also the backbone of Ukraine’s progress in other areas (political, social, and economic).

Public Service
and Good Governance

Even at war, Ukraine is actively implementing its course for European integration, and gaining the status of candidate country for EU membership has upgraded negotiations and contacts with European colleagues. Ukraine has proved its institutional sustainability, and this is a reliable basis for the practical implementation of the EU acquis in the field of public service.

Economy,
finance, business

Since 1 October, Ukrainian exporters have been allowed to send goods abroad immediately from warehouses. According to forecasts by DG TAXUD, Ukraine could enter the top ten countries in terms of the number of transit declarations issued.

Good Governance

Cooperation and coordination between local authorities and State Tax Service is a cornerstone for reliable budget revenue.

The first social tailors shop was established in Ivano-Frankivsk. It is engaged in tailoring and mending clothes and items for military personnel, displaced persons, and low-income citizens, and has already delivered its first order (manufacturing 69 winter sleeping bags for our frontline troops).

Science, Culture, and Education

Ukraine’s integration into the European scientific space has been given a powerful boost.

A unique route has been created as part of a project by the Danube-Carpathian Programme, in cooperation with the Roztochchia Nature Reserve.

Media and Civil Society

Ukrainian CSOs have shown that although the COVID-19 crisis as required high efforts and self-management from people and companies, it has made them stronger and more ready to face new challenges, as a result.
