European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson has announced a European Commission grant of more than €50 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reports.
“Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko was also with us [at the meeting of the EU Council of Energy Ministers – ed.] and I expressed the European Commission’s unwavering support for Ukraine on the eve of another difficult winter,” the EU commissioner said in a press release issued by the Energy Ministry on Wednesday.
She stressed that the European community should be prepared for continued Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the coming winter and make efforts to minimise them.
Simson also called on European countries to continue their contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which will enable the purchase of equipment needed to restore damaged energy facilities.
As a reminder:
The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established in the spring of 2022 on the joint initiative of the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy and the European Commissioner for Energy to accumulate contributions from governments, international financial organisations and private donors to support Ukraine’s energy sector. As of mid-July this year, the fund stood at around $220 million.
