Peter Wagner visit to Dnipro to hand over crucial demining equipment
Kyiv was not the only destination during the most recent visit by HRVP Josep Borrell and his team. Peter M. Wagner, Director of the EU’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments, travelled to Dnipro to meet with Ukrainian partners and hand over crucial demining equipment on behalf of the High Representative.
Dnipro keeps being targeted by Russian airstrikes. Director Wagner and Mayor Borys Filatov visited a residential building that was hit by a Russian missile only last year. Together with the Head of the Regional Military Administration Serhiy Lysak, Peter Wagner discussed the current situation in the Dnipro region and the challenges faced by the local population. Despite all the atrocities Russia is committing in the region, the people of Dnipro are not losing hope that Ukraine will prevail.
Hope is also the name of the DOK-ING MV-10 remote demining system that the State Special Transport Service received as part of a €25 million EU assistance package for humanitarian demining announced at the EU-Ukraine Summit in February 2023. Alongside previously provided specialised equipment and gear, it will be an excellent addition to the arsenal of Ukrainian forces engaged in the extremely challenging task of demining liberated areas.
Peter Wagner’s visit to Dnipro is a clear sign of the EU’s steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine in its efforts to build a secure and peaceful future.
Special thanks to our Ukrainian partners for their cooperation and coverage of this significant event.
