European Cross-Border Grant programme to support cross-border investigations

The European Cross-Border Grant programme supports cross-border teams of professional journalists and/or news outlets who have good ideas for cross-border investigations and for research on European topics. The stories must be relevant to European target groups.

European Cross-Border Grants are carried out by Journalismfund.eu, with funding from the European Union, Limelight Foundation, and Vereniging Veronica.

To apply, you need a good idea for an investigation, a cross-border team of at least two journalists and/ or independent media outlets, and at least two letters of intent from European professional news outlets (from which at least one based in the EU) who are willing to publish the result of your investigation. The team should consist of two journalists or media from different Council of Europe countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

The total available amount per call to be distributed among all supported investigations will be around €225,000.

The grant can cover working time and expenses such as logistics, travel, insurance, access to legal support, translations, access to technology and data sets, etc.

Next to a grant, teams can also apply for a mentor to provide assistance with either the focus of the investigation or the need for competences in a specific skill.

The deadline for applications is 26 September. The next deadline will be 7 November.
