On 8 July 2023, the Lavra Art Gallery, with the support of the EU, will host the Cultural Mosaic Art Open Air. This is a key public event of the “Together, We Create. Together, We Preserve” communication campaign, which informs Ukrainians about the European Union’s support for Ukrainian culture and art during the full-scale war. In addition to military, financial and humanitarian aid, the EU has provided vital support to Ukrainian culture, helping to secure, evacuate and preserve museum collections and accelerating the digitisation of exhibits and architectural monuments that were at risk of destruction or theft as a result of Russia’s large-scale war.
The European Union considers the Ukrainian cultural heritage integral to the European and global treasures. It supports Ukrainians in their commitment to preserve their cultural heritage in all its richness and diversity. It is equally important to enable Ukrainian artists, even in times of war, to continue to create and develop Ukrainian culture, to present it to foreign audiences, and to convey the truth about the war and the longed-for peace in Ukraine.
Visitors will be able to learn and see what has been done thanks to the European Union’s support for Ukraine’s cultural heritage and production at the thematic open air “Cultural Mosaic” on 8 July 2023 at the Lavra Gallery in Kyiv.
Visitors will be offered lectures and presentations, conversations with Ukrainian artists and representatives of EU cultural projects and programmes, and learn how to get a grant to realise their creative ideas. Two exhibitions will be open for guests – the artworks of the finalists of a dedicated art competition and an exhibition dedicated to the work of heritage conservation specialists in wartime. In addition, everyone will be able to make a motanka doll or try their hand at restoration, watch contemporary documentaries and browse through books by Ukrainian publishers, learn many interesting and little-known facts about the lives of Ukrainian cultural figures during the war and the support provided by the European Union. Younger visitors can enjoy a mobile puppet theatre, a drawing competition and other interesting art surprises.
