The European Union is strengthening its support for Ukraine
10/04/2025
On 9 April, the EU adopted a series of decisions aimed at strengthening its support for Ukraine.
The European Commission has disbursed an additional tranche of €1 billion under exceptional macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. The total amount of macro-financial assistance for Ukraine now stands at €5 billion. The €18.1 billion EU macro-financial assistance programme is part of the G7-led ‘Fast Track Emergency Financing’ initiative to provide Ukraine with around €45 billion.
The Commission also announced that it will receive €2.1 billion this week in proceeds from frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia held in central securities depositories. These funds will be channelled through the European Peace Facility and the Ukraine Facility to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities and support its recovery and reconstruction.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission: “Our commitment to Ukraine is stronger than ever… We support Ukraine’s impressive efforts to reform and deepen our ties – from space, security and defense to building a thriving business environment. We are with you. We are with you.”
