15/11/2024
On 12 November, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova announced a €65 million pledge to support Ukraine’s school nutrition reform at the European Regional School Meals Summit, hosted by Kyiv, Ukraine.
The event brought together government representatives and international partners such as the World Food Programme and UNICEF Ukraine to discuss the future of school feeding and promote the goals of the School Meals Coalition.
Ukraine’s school nutrition reform was initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska. The EU support will provide free, nutritious meals to over 700,000 primary schoolchildren.
The EU Delegation to Ukraine says in a Facebook post that this initiative is strongly supported by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“This commitment will help Ukraine achieve the School Meals Coalition’s vision of ensuring that every child has access to healthy, nutritious meals by 2030. In line with our Together We Learn & Grow campaign, it showcases the EU’s support for Ukrainian education during these challenging times, addressing not only immediate needs but also investing in a stronger foundation for the future,” the Delegation said.
