17/02/2025
The final event of the all-Ukrainian communication campaign “Together We Learn & Grow” took place on February 15, 2025, in Lviv. The campaign showcased the European Union’s (EU) ongoing support for Ukrainian education and young people during the war.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU has provided over €350 million to support Ukraine’s education sector and established an education coalition to promote reforms. These efforts aim to create a safe learning environment, modernise the education system, and support Ukraine’s recovery and integration into Europe.
The “Together We Learn & Grow” communication campaign reached approximately 14 million people over nearly 6 months.
The closing event, organised by the EU Delegation to Ukraine in partnership with the Lviv – European Youth Capital 2025 Initiative and the Lviv European Integration Bureau, was opened by EU Ambassador Katarina Mathernová and Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. The event, which gathered over 1,500 young people, educators, experts, and journalists, served as a platform to showcase the achievements of EU educational and youth initiatives, as well as new opportunities for young Ukrainians.
“Russia’s aggression has irrevocably changed the lives of millions of Ukrainian children and young people. As Ukraine’s future, they must not lose opportunities for learning,” said EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernová. “That is why we launched this campaign in support of young Ukrainians, and I was delighted to be present at the closing event in Lviv – European Youth Capital 2025. While Ukraine bravely fights the Russian occupier, the EU remains committed to education and youth – not only as an investment in Ukraine’s future, but also as hope and resilience that will shape our shared European future.”
Moderated by Roman Shcherban and featuring a performance by singer ALYONA ALYONA, the event featured a series of interactive panel discussions within the Discussion Space, covering topics such as career paths, youth leadership, and the role of young people in shaping local communities and Ukraine’s future. Particular attention was paid to educational opportunities for veterans and internally displaced persons (IDPs), highlighting ways to acquire new skills, start a business, and adapt to changing circumstances.
At the Opportunities Space, visitors engaged with 10 EU projects, programmes, and initiatives for young Ukrainians and discovered the opportunities offered by the European Union. Experts from EU programmes and projects spoke about current and potential opportunities for Ukrainian youth offered by Erasmus+, eTwinning, EU4Youth, and the EU Study Days project. Also highlighted were the initiatives such as the European Youth Ambassadors, the EuroQuiz and the Euroclub network, the EU Information Centre at Ivan Franko Lviv National University, the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine cross-border cooperation programme, the Lviv European Integration Bureau, and the Lviv – European Youth Capital 2025 Initiative.
A unique “Lviv-Chișinău Online Bridge”, connecting young Ukrainians with their peers from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and other parts of Ukraine, who gathered in Chișinău for the EU4Youth Alumni network IdeaLab, took place as part of the event. Visitors also enjoyed playing the “From Lviv to Brussels” European integration game to expand their knowledge of the European Union and the history of EU-Ukraine relations and receive commemorative gifts. The winners of the All-Ukrainian contest for regional media, representing Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, the Kyiv Oblast, and Cherkasy, were awarded by EU Ambassador Katarina Mathernová and Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. The contest was part of the “Together We Learn & Grow” campaign.
