EU to invest record €7 billion into safe and smart transport infrastructure, including Solidarity Lanes
19/07/2024
The European Commission announced today that it has selected 134 transport projects to receive over €7 billion in EU grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU’s instrument for strategic investment in infrastructure. This represents the largest call under the current CEF Transport programme.
Several selected projects will enable greater capacity along the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes, set up to facilitate imports and exports between Ukraine and the EU.
These projects cover improvements to road infrastructure at border crossings between Ukraine, Moldova and Romania, works to increase the capacity of the Hungary-Ukraine railway border crossing point and the extension of a new road section in Poland to the Ukrainian border.
CEF will also finance studies and works on the integration of the Ukrainian railway system into the EU.
