This flagship event aimed at empowering young people to actively combat corruption
Kyiv, 10 July 2023 – The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, together with national partners, organized an Anti-Corruption Camp in Yablunytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. The event brought together some 40 law students from various higher education institutions, including institutions relocated from areas of active hostilities.
During the dynamic five-day event, the young participants engaged in a wide range of activities, including presentations, workshops, discussions, and quests. These activities were designed to enhance their understanding and proficiency for combating corruption while fostering valuable investigation and prevention skills. The experienced speakers who facilitated the event are committed to improving the quality of legal education in Ukraine and assisting institutions to achieve transparency, efficiency, and sustainability.
Through active participation in case studies, simulations, and group exercises mirroring real-life scenarios, the law students found innovative solutions and elevated their communication skills. Furthermore, the participants received professional feedback from the experts, helping them to further refine their capacities.
Martin Schroeder, Head of the Local and Human Development Section at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, said that the fight against corruption requires a joint effort, and that the EU stands firmly in solidarity with Ukraine. “This initiative is a significant step towards creating a society based on integrity and transparency,” he said. “Through the empowerment of the younger generation, we are paving the way for a future free from corruption, and promoting sustainable development in Ukraine’s post-war recovery.”
Christophoros Politis, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, said that UNDP is dedicated to supporting initiatives that lay the foundation for a more transparent, accountable and prosperous Ukraine. “The Anti-Corruption Camp exemplified our shared commitment to strengthening awareness on corruption, advancing prevention practices and promoting good governance principles in Ukraine,” he said. “Equipping young people with the essential skills, knowledge, and tools enables them to serve as change-makers in their communities.”
