Thanks to EU funding new diesel generators have been delivered and installed over August and September 2022 to the for the Ukrainian State Customs Service. This support comes in the framework of the EU Support to IBM in Ukraine (EU4IBM) project implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). Most recently, EU4IBM handed over 15 Malcomson diesel generators with a capacity of 33 up to 44 kW, now deployed in 15 Customs houses and border crossing points in 11 different regions across Ukraine.
“Our cooperation with the State Customs Service of Ukraine continues in wartime, through a range of projects, to support safe and fluid cross-border movement of humanitarian aid as well as of export and import goods and supplies, to help the people and uphold the economy and the defensive capacity of Ukraine”, said Xavier Camus, Head of the Good Governance and Democratisation Section at the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.
In the situation of regular missile and drone strikes by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, including power generation facilities, the deployment of backup power supplies will help the State Customs Service of Ukraine fulfil their daily functions. With the new power generation equipment provided, customs offices and customs posts throughout Ukraine will be able to avoid interruptions in the work of critically important customs offices at the border and inland.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the EU4IBM project funded by the European Union, has stepped up to provide urgent support to Ukrainian border management agencies, in particular by providing essential equipment for green border security, self-protection equipment, facilitation of work at border crossing points and other essential daily functions for an overall amount of over 2 million euro.
