Ternopil preschool reopens for new year after energy renovation supported by European Investment Bank
06/09/2024
On 4 September, preschool No. 32 in Ternopil officially opened its door after completing extensive energy efficiency upgrades with the support of the European Investment Bank’s (EIB) Ukraine Municipal Infrastructure Programme (UMIP).
With these improvements, 250 Ukrainian children, aged 3 to 10, can now start the school year in a modern, energy-efficient setting. The renovations included a wide range of upgrades: facade insulation, underfloor heating in playrooms, replacement of the heating and ventilation systems, and new lighting installations. These enhancements have led to over 20% energy savings, reducing costs for both the preschool and the city’s budget, while significantly improving comfort for the children.
Within the EIB’s UMIP programme, similar energy efficiency upgrades are planned for 19 more educational institutions in Ternopil between 2025 and 2026.
EIB Vice-President Teresa Czerwińska, responsible for the Bank’s operations in Ukraine, said: “Through excellent collaboration with local authorities, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, and the EU Delegation, we completed significant thermal modernization of the school, achieving over 20% energy savings.”
She added that beyond this school in Ternopil, the programme includes projects such as enhancing water supply systems in Mykolaiv and Kharkiv oblasts, upgrading public lighting in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, reclaiming the Hrybovychi Landfill in Lviv, and other essential initiatives that improve the quality of life in local communities and demonstrate the continued commitment to supporting Ukraine’s development and resilience.
