On 12 April, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas, together with Regional Development Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov, handed over emergency aid for the Kyiv region’s municipalities – electric saws, mini generators and other tools.
This equipment was procured by the U-LEAD with Europe Programme, a multi-donor action of the EU and its member states (Germany, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Estonia and Slovenia) that helps to improve the delivery of administrative services in Ukraine.
The programme is currently implementing a €15 million emergency plan to support Ukrainian municipalities in dealing with the consequences of the ongoing Russian military aggression.
The programme has redesigned its activities and currently assists in the following ways:
- procurement and delivery of emergency packages to the local level;
- direct legal and technical advice to municipalities specifically designed for wartime;
- ‘Bridges of Trust’ – strengthening cooperation between Ukrainian municipalities and municipalities in the EU.
