At the end of July, UNDP representatives from the Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Ukraine technical support team visited the communities in Ternopil Oblast selected for the programme.
The Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Ukraine programme is being implemented through a loan from the European Investment Bank, with the financial support of the Eastern European Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Fund.
During the visits, the experts conducted a technical inspection of 11 public buildings to be modernised in five communities in Ternopil Oblast. These included six hospitals in Ternopil, a gymnasium in Borshchiv, a hospital and kindergarten in Buchach, and kindergartens in Khorostkiv, and Velyka Berezovytsia. The experts provided recommendations for improving energy efficiency measures in the draft technical documentation currently being developed in the communities.
The programme promotes energy efficiency in public buildings, such as administrative buildings, schools, kindergartens, cultural centres and hospitals. Energy efficiency measures account for about 50% of the modernisation of these facilities. This includes insulation of facades, roofs, and installation of energy-efficient windows.
The programme also provides funding for other measures, including the construction of shelters and the creation of appropriate conditions for people with limited mobility and internally displaced persons.
